Water Indaba implements solutions to water crises in South Africa.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) recently held a two day water Indaba at Gallagher convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg.With a panel of speakers including the premier of Gauteng Panyaza Lesufi and the minister of water and sanitation Penny Majodina present, President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke on service delivery in Gauteng. 

Stating that progress is being made regarding water crisis, the president later went on to say that the main focus of the Indaba was to support municipalities in the water and sanitation department. “One of the main issues that the department is tackling is corruption and fraud” “, he said also speaking about the operation Vulindela. An operation of getting things done and finding complex solutions.

Ramaphosa spoke on a greater collaboration between the provincial and the national government as-well as the private sector to ensure better workmanship

In his closing remarks Deputy president Paul Mashatile indicated the key points that Ramaphosa spoke of on day 1 of the Indaba. Mashatile said progress is being made since 1994 apartheid, he further said that the roll out of the infustracture projects especially in rural areas are going to be put into place. It is said that 82% of south Africans have access to clean water since 2022 which is a huge improvement.  He closed off saying that “The plan is here with clear time frames.”

According to the DWS the Indaba will be a historical moment in South Africa. In closing of the indaba, The minister of water and sanitation Penny Majodina stated the department’s plan to take the Indaba seriously.
