Africa Day, commemorated annually on 25 May, marks the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, which later became the African Union (AU). The day celebrates the continent’s ongoing journey toward unity, liberation, and socio-economic progress.

In celebration of this historic occasion, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) campus radio station, Tshwane FM 93.6, is partnering with Capitalk 100.4 FM, Harare’s leading talk radio station, for a special cross-border radio simulcast aimed at showcasing African collaboration through the medium of radio.
The live broadcast will take place this Sunday, 25 May, during Sunday Vibrations, a music and culture show hosted by Palesa Letlape, popularly known as Kgosigadi. The show also features resident DJ and producer Mudanisi during regular programming.
For this special broadcast, Kgosigadi will be joined by veteran broadcaster and general manager Comfort Mbofana, who brings over 13 years of experience in African media. Mbofana oversees Capitalk FM and its sister stations Star FM, Platinum FM, and Diamond FM and will lead a discussion on the evolution of radio on the continent and its continued relevance in the digital age.
Tshwane FM Station Manager, Tebogo Jacko Magubane, highlighted the importance of the collaboration:
“This simulcast forms part of our #FromPitoriToTheWorld campaign, which aims to position Tshwane FM as contributors to the broader African conversation. Africa Day reminds us that collaboration across borders isn’t just possible, it’s necessary. This broadcast is about using radio to reflect our shared heritage, celebrate our cultural richness, and amplify African voices on a continental scale.”
Capitalk FM Station Manager, Nyaradzo Hazangwi, echoed the sentiment and highlighted the value of shared learning between the two stations:
“This partnership opened up space for meaningful dialogue on the challenges we face in the radio industry ranging from audience engagement to revenue generation. It’s encouraging to see how broadcasters across the continent are navigating similar issues and finding creative ways to adapt. We’re proud to be part of this important exchange.”
This Africa Day simulcast stands as a bold testament to the power of cross-border media partnerships in uniting African voices, bridging cultural divides, and reinforcing the relevance of public-interest broadcasting.
